Crime Maps Week of 11-24-2013

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Take a minute, go through your residence and make sure all of your windows are locked.

Plan the safest route to your destination and use it.
Choose well-lit streets and avoid passing vacant lots, alleys or construction sites.
Take the long way if it’s the safest.
Make sure you know where your children are going when they go out.
Walk facing traffic so you can see approaching cars.
Carry your purse close to your body and keep a firm grip on it.
Carry a wallet in an inside coat or side trouser pocket, not in a rear pocket.
Criminals tend to target victims that look lost, are using a cell phone, rummaging through their bags or are listening to MP3 players (don’t be distracted).
Know your neighborhood. Find out what stores & restaurants are open late & where the police & fire stations are located.
Bring emergency money in case you need fare for a bus or cab.
Don’t flaunt expensive jewelry or clothing.
Don’t carry too many packages and groceries that would make it hard to react.
Use the buddy system.
Have your car or house key in hand as you approach your vehicle or home.
