What do you know about your house’s history?
Your historic home has stories to tell.  

Have you ever wondered about your history of home?

Who used to live there or what their lives were like? 

This session of Hands on History will explore methods of research to uncover the story of your house. It is less about architectural history, and more about the history of the building and the people who owned and lived in it. Learn how to use resources such as maps, census data, city directories, land conveyances, photographs, newspapers and local histories as well as where you can find these research tools. This session will give provide a guide to constructing a history of your home.

Join us on December 14, 2013, and learn how to research your historic home’s past, and learn about your own heritage along the way!

Registration Fee: $30 per person or

$20 for Preservation Louisville Members
Preservation Louisville is co-sponsoring this lecture series along with the Metro Louisville Historic Landmarks Commission and the Kentucky Heritage Council/State Historic Preservation Office. Hands on History programs are presented with support from The Brown-Forman Corporation. Throughout the series, participants will learn practical, hands-on techniques for working with original materials and finishes to maintain, restore and preserve historic elements such as plaster, woodwork, gutters, roofing and masonry. Adapting “green” concepts for historic structures and renovating historic window and art glass will also be explored.
