Supreme Peace Yoga – New Years Resolutions

Make 2014 Your Healthiest and Happiest New Year Yet!

By Jodie Tingle-Willis, Owner of Supreme Peace Yoga

http://www.supreme-peace-yoga.com

Only 8 percent of Americans successfully achieve their New Year’s resolutions? (A whopping 45 percent fail by the end of January!) So what’s the point? And, how are we supposed to make those changes we want in our lives?resolutions

Most of our resolutions are about losing or stopping something (i.e weight, smoking, drinking, sugar, or other bad habits). When we mess up the first time, we immediately feel guilty, and run straight to the things that comfort us (i.e. sugar, alcohol, cigarettes, etc…).

Maybe it’s time to think about our resolutions a little differently and kick guilt out of the equation.
Here are a couple of suggestions:

  • Be positive,
  • Be specific,
  • Stay in the present,
  • Express gratitude,
  • Visualize it!

For example, rather than saying, “I want (future tense) to lose (negative) 20 pounds,” perhaps rephrase that into, “I am (present) thankful (gratitude) that I am
healthy (positive) by choosing to eat 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables each day (specific).” (Now visualize yourself, healthier than you’ve ever been enjoying your favorite fruits and veggies.)
Now, try it on the resolutions you’ve been mulling around in your mind.
