Fall Bike to Work Days
Join Bike Louisville this Fall for three Friday Bike to Work Day events, taking place (TOMORROW!) Friday, September 21, 28 and October 5th. We’ll be meeting at the basketball court at Seneca Park each Friday morning at 7:15 a.m. to bike downtown with YOU!  If you would like to host a ride to work please let us know so we can help you promote your ride. PARK(ing) Day
PARK(ing) Day is a global, grassroots event where metered parking spaces are temporarily transformed into public parks and other social spaces!  If you’re out and about town tomorrow, check out the cool spaces, replacing cars with parks!


September 24
Active Living Meeting Notice
There’s never been a better time to get involved with the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Movement! The Active Living committee is the group working to help Louisville become a healthier, more active city!  We’ve just made improvements to how we’re organized to better serve you and our first meeting is coming up on Monday, September 24 from 4 until 5:30 p.m. at 400 E. Gray Street in the Forum.

At our first meeting, speakers will include: LaQuandra Nesbitt, MD, MPH, Director of the Louisville Metro Dept of Public Health & Wellness, and Anneta Arno, PhD, MPH, Director of the Center for Health Equity. They will be giving a presentation to outline the vision and goals for Community Transformation, followed by a discussion of on-going activities and next steps.

Bike Parking
The city’s Parking Authority (PARC), along with Metro Public Works and Bike Louisville, recently announced new bike parking in parking garages downtown.  Check out the map and take advantage of this great new FREE resource! See Map (PDF)


Friday Night Middle CX Kicked is Rolling! 
Red Zone Cycling Team and Bike Louisville hosted its second of eight Cyclocross Clinics down at Eva Bandman Park on River Road these last two weeks. Last Friday several community centers showed up with approximately 30 youth who learned about helmet fitting, starts and stops, riding on the grass and cornering off camber. Feel free to help us for the next six Fridays from 5:00 pm – 6:15 down at Eva Bandman Park!  Contact us: john.eisinger@louisvilleky.gov


Bike Louisville Work Plan Updated
The revised Bike Louisville work plan for the next 6 months is updated online (PDF).


Completed Short Range Goals 

Education:

  • 12% of JCPS Elementary Schools received Bike Sense
  • 100% of community centers received Summer Bike Sense and Bike Sense Cops for Kids
  • 75 adults completed the LAB Road 101 Class
  • Hosted monthly APBP webinars for engineering staff, local advocates and engineering planning consultants

Encouragement:

  • 500 people participated during Bike to Work Day
  • 8,000 people participate in the Memorial Day HB&P
  • Helped promote bicycle parking at three events (State Fair, Cherokee Triangle Art Fair, and Thunder of Louisville)
  • Revise and reprint the Printed Bike Map

Enforcement:

  • 100% of Community Centers received Bike Sense Cops for Kids

Upcoming Program Goals 

Education:

  • 18% of JCPS Elementary Schools received Bike Sense Middle CX reaches 20 youth
  • 25 adults completed the LAB Road 101 Class
  • Hosted monthly APBP webinars for engineering staff, local advocates and engineering planning consultants

Encouragement:

  • 500  people participated during Bike to Work Day this Fall
  • Continue to help promote bicycle parking at events
  • Continue to help promote local bicycling events

Enforcement:

  • See and Be Seen Campaign at two locations this fall
